With record high $4.50 a gallon gasoline we are getting a glimpse of the world the way Democrats want it. Democrats make no secret that they wish oil was even higher. Al Gore, in his first book, Earth in the Balance, said the only solution to the world's problems is sky-high oil and gas prices. Democrats put stopping global warming at the top of their agenda and there's no better way to slow the use of fossil fuels than to increase the price of them. This explains why Democrats who control both houses of Congress adamantly refuse to allow for more domestic oil drilling. In the meantime though, this refusal is hurting America's poor and elderly (see story here) - two groups that Democrats claim to support.
Democrats are ecstatic over higher energy prices. Barak Obama said he doesn't mind that gas prices are at record-high levels, he only minds how fast they got there. He said he wished they had gotten there a little slower. But he didn't say he has a problem with them being as high as they are. Senate majority leader Harry Reid let the cat out of the bag again this week, in case there were still any skeptics on this issue. He said "oil is making us sick" and it is "ruining our country". He apparently believes that no oil is preferable to any oil and therefore adamantly opposes more oil drilling. He and Congressional Democrats who control both houses of Congress have voted to keep America's oil and energy assets off limits to Americans. For those who are still wondering why the Democrats don't vote to let us drill for more oil in our own country, there is really no mystery here. They believe oil is the problem and that we use too much of it already. Harry Reid believes it is making us sick and that it is ruining our country. He is apparently unaware of the life-saving benefits of oil. In a world of 6 billion people it would be impossible to feed, house, clothe and give medical care without the use of oil as a primary source of energy. Hundreds of millions would die if oil didn't exist to fuel every single modern life-saving device. Without oil we wouldn't even be able to put food on the tables of a majority of the world's people. Without oil there would be no modern medicine - which is fueled entirely by electricity.
