After years of bitterly complaining that we shouldn't be in Iraq because the military is spread too thin, the Democrats have nominated as their candidate for president, a man who promises that through massive spending cuts the military will be spread even thinner if he becomes president.

In a speech before a group called the "Caucus Priorities", he outlined his apparent "Peace Through Weakness" approach.  Calling it "wasteful spending", Obama promises to cut billions of dollars in military spending, including taking billions from the missile defense program. Saying his "sole priority" is to "protect the American people", he also plans to slow the development of future combat systems.

Democrats complain bitterly when anyone suggests they are weak on defense, but for decades they have insisted on cutting defense spending.  Whatever good reasons they give, it doesn't make up for the fact that less defense spending means less defense capability.

Democrats have cited the problem military readiness created by the war in Iraq.  They have said that war has spread our military too thin.  However, they fail to mention that Bill Clinton slashed military spending throughout the 1990s.  Obama says he will do the same if elected.
